The MX2 project produced several successes, the MX2-05 pair wasn't concidered one of them. The point was, by their reasoning, weak and the support, despite using the genetic coding of a very successful cryokinetic experiment, wasn't near as strong as her 'older sister'.
Writing the pair off, Malta sent MX2-05-02, codenamed Kia Sigma on a suicide mission alone against a Rikti base. While down there, Kia was exposed to several barrels of Shift directly to the wounds she had sustained. Though she managed to encase herself in ice, the combination kept her frozen for a year and a half before the second Rikti Invasion.
The Shift was still working while she was sleeping. Triggering a secondary mutation, the price, however, was high.
