"DYNAMITE JACK AND HIS KILOTON PUNCH SAVE THE DAY!!"

Jack read the headline with a rueful grin. Saved the day? He hadn't been good enough to save everyone. No matter how hard he trained at controlling his power, he would never be good enough. And yet he would keep trying, for her.

Jack had been a scrawny kid; people were always picking on him. Lisa never did, she was always nice to him. One day when a bully was picking on him, she stepped in and made him stop. The other kids laughed at Jack for needing a girl to fight for him.

The shame was unbearable and changed something inside of him. Lisa was yelling at the bully and Jack grabbed her arm, meaning to move her aside and confront the bully himself. The explosion was deafening.

The doctors later told him that he could channel kinetic energy. His body could withstand the force, but the others were badly hurt, and Lisa ended up in a coma.

She is still in that hospital bed, and Jack will never stop trying.
