Calvin was just your average, mild-mannered student of the occult, slightly above-average in his grades but known to be something of a partyer. Little did he realize where his term paper on the origins of the Circle of Thorns would lead him - he was hoping for a B, so he'd pass his course, but he got much more than that. Chance lead him to an old tome, lying forgotten in the library stacks. Curious, he read long into the night, not knowing that this was a special night. It was about 2am when he came across the passage describing the enchantment of chains to bind the darkness. Without consciously realizing what he was doing, he read the words aloud, while a cosmic coincidence of epic proportions was taking place. The speaking of these words, combined with the once in a millennium alignment of a few special stars filled his body with more darkness than the human form can possibly contain. Luckily for him, this spell carried its own protections, in the form of the chains that now bind his arms and legs.
