After running away from home, Scarlet?s mom, Mary Evans, lived on the streets until she caught the eye of a very wealthy, influential businessman, Thomas Moore. Everyone always praised Thomas for being a very "good" man. Mary and Thomas wed and had a beautiful baby daughter, who Mary named Scarlet to remind her of how far she had come from the district she once was forced to live in. Although Scarlet had everything she could possibly have wanted, she was not a happy child. All too often Scarlet witnessed the abuse her mother endured at the hand of her father. She grew to hate ?good? people and thought if that was what ?good? was she didn?t want any part of it.
