Rhys Evans was a shy kid, who didn't feel like he had anywhere he belonged.  His parents were good people, treated him well, but he never felt close to them. Both mages in their own right, working closely with MAGI, Rhys felt that he just got in the way of his powerful parents and their powerful connections.  The only way to solve that, Rhys thought, was to become powerful himself. One night, while his parents slept, Rhys wondered down to the basement and began reading through the magical tomes his parents kept.  He knew they would be furious if they found out, but the curiousity was overwhelming.  Reading an incantation aloud, Rhys felt his body heat up.  It was as if the power of the words he was reading were going to explode out of him.  And, explode they did, leveling the house on top of him.  When the smoke cleared, Rhys found himself uninjured by the blast.  His parents, however, were not so fortunate.
