Valerie, Nick-named Valkyrie due to her temper, found out the hard way that sometimes studing like your parents warned you might save you a bit of pain. Had she been doing that instead of trying to work on a spell to get a boy away from the class tramp, she wouldn't have been hit by a stray energy beam and landing in the hospital. Of course, she also might never have gotten her powers or that date with the boy of her dreams. The boy was a jerk and Val is glad the tramp managed to trap him into marring her. Besides, now she get to hang with really cute guys in spandex who might actually have a few working braincells in their heads.
