Monique's older sisters teased her about being afraid of the dark, until the night she was drug screaming into the darkness under her bed - never to be seen again.

Monique couldn't tell you how many nights she lay crying in the dark. She could tell you about the bright violet eyes that stared down at her. She could describe the cold hands that held her as the dark wizards siphoned her innocence as fuel for their spells.

The night that the Legacy Brigade freed her was much the same. Living in perpetual darkness it was the sound of fighting she remembers. The bright lights hurt and confused her. Finally free, she was taught to channel the dark energies inside her, to heal the valiant and torment the evil.

Now she patrols the dark streets. She protects the innocents who wisely fear the dark. But as the darkness flows around her and through her, is that laughter she hears?
