The
Idun
Character Bio
Very little is known of this Superheroine beyond the fact that she has taken the name of Idun, the Norse goddess of eternal youth, and that her occasional Battle Cry that has been caught on tape is an archaic form of Germanic, no longer spoken. She avoids giving interviews, and speaks very rarely in public. Turning to the history books for reference, we have very little to draw upon, as Idun is rarely mentioned in any surviving texts. However, in those that do mention her, we see that in the mythology, her name means "The Rejuvenating One". The goddess Idun was the keeper of the Golden Apples which kept the otherwise-mortal Gods eternally young. The sole surviving myth we have concerning Idun is the story of her kidnapping by the giant Thiazi, who, disguised in his eagle skin cloak, took Idun to his home in the mountains of Jotunheim. Loki borrowed Freya's falcon cloak and flew to Jotunheim, where he found Idun alone. Turning her into a nut, he flew back to Asgard clutching it in his claws.
