Character Bio

While still in high school, Jim Welles started working construction, mostly oxyacetylene welding. He'd always had an affinity for fire, sometimes verging on pyromania, and it scared him sometimes. The flames seemed so bright, so comforting, so fascinating . . . One day a gang of Hellions came to the site and tried to roust the supervisor for protection money. When the super refused and started hollering for a hero, two of the Hellions grabbed Jim and threatened to blow his brains out. Jim struggled to break free, so one of the Hellions took a shot at him. He missed and hit the gas tank instead. It blew up in a brilliant fireball, knocking everyone down and setting Jim and the Hellions ablaze. The Hellions didn't get up, but Jim did. The flames felt good, natural, a part of him. He then beat the snot out of the remaining Hellions. The doctors told him that he had the pyro gene mutation that didn't manifest until the accident. He now patrols the city, wiping out the scourge of the Hellions.s
