"Flesh ripping from the inside out. Sounds painful. Trust me, it is. It was March 28, 1991. My eighteenth birthday. Then I felt it, the ripping, the pain was extreme beyond belief. I thought I was going to die, I blacked out.... No, no I didn't black out. There was darkness, darkness it's all I saw. I began to pull at it bend it, I needed something to use as an outlet for the pain. I wrapped myself in darkness and let the pain flow into that. My tattered flesh was now hidden in a shroud of darkness. How all this happened I'll never know. Probably just some genetic mutation, and with my bad luck figures it would be me."

Now Roy lives in Paragon City where others like him reside. He was given the name Tattered Midnight by a group of locals when they heard his story. Roy uses his pain and agony against the villains of Paragon. Better to be a hero than a villain right?
