Phil wasn't very special. However, as he got older, he found that he could "communicate" with plants. Not that he talked to them, that would be crazy, but he understood what they needed to grow and flourish. He started focusing on the things plants needed to grow, and sure enough, they grew... quite large in fact. He became a walking greenhouse. If a plant needed warmth, he could provide it . He even encouraged them to grow in places they normally wouldn't. When he realized that he was making plants grow and was able to control them, he tormented his older siblings. After seeing a documentary on the Rikti war, and the loss of so many heroes, he decided he'd use his skills to put villans behind bars.
