She didn't know what was worse: the cheesy name "Mistress Omen" or the garish costume. But, she had a gift, and it paid the bills.

Over the years, her distate for the carnival proprietors and customers grew. However, she began to notice that she wasn't just reading the cards in front of her, but actually reading the minds of these idiots. The desire to be rich without working for it, finding love despite intolerable personalities . . . Their minds were comprehensible, amazingly enough, and she found that she could control them.

She began with putting the occasional customer to sleep while she emptied his wallet. Eventually, she found she could even get them to do her bidding (why pick one measly pocket when she could have the customer go pick multiple pockets and return the money to her?). The opportunities were endless . . . w
