After his family was killed in a freak accident, Nikola Tesla was grief-stricken. He swore off science and wandered the world, dropping out of the public eye and becoming little more than a historical footnote.

But such genius could not be suppressed forever, and upon waking from a vivid dream of his lost family, Tesla began work on a revolutionary project. He would take up the clockwork devices that had so fascinated his mother and he would create something the world had never seen before.

After years in seclusion, Tesla's masterpiece was complete. Named Lustre for the sheen of her brass skin, she possessed the ability to speak and to reason, and began to learn at a phenomenal rate.

Tesla died only a few short years later, but not before extracting a vow from Lustre to forever aid mankind. Having done all she could in her world, now she's come to ours.
