After the first Rikti Invasion, anti-robot sentiment rose, damaging the reputation of androids and the cybernetically altered. To combat rising prejudice and falling profits, Exarch Industries created a new line of android defenders: the Tekk Line of Defense.

In 2006, public fears surrounding Tempest Tekk's dark-energy powers caused Exarch no end of headaches. But a vocal minority called its "corruption" an opportunity, not a crisis. No power is inherently evil, they insisted, and this one could be put to good use - so Project X-1 was born.

Far out of the public eye, new applications of the dark energies were found, and secret test runs (in a nondescript shell) were fruitful. Despite X-1's promise, Marketing deemed it "too risky." It sat idle in a warehouse, collecting dust.

Now, with Tempest nearing Hero of the City status (and approval ratings stable), X-1 gets its chance. Time will tell what the newly minted Cygnus Tekk's impact on the city - and Exarch's stock price - will be.
