Aline Ferguson had a problem with law and order. There wasn't enough of the first to keep the second. In a place like New York City, more of both was needed, and Aline intended to see the city got what it needed. Her obsessive workaholism and remorseless quest to impose the law got her on the promotional fast track. When the Second Rikti War began, she was a lieutenant bucking to be one of the youngest captains in the department's history, and a departmental top gun.

During the invasion, Aline, along with other officers, was exposed to mutagenic biological weapons. Lucky her, her mind became as much a weapon as her pistols. Unlucky her -- in the renewed wave of anti-mutant, anti-alien hysteria after the invasions, the NYPD bowed to pressure from city officials and kicked out all tested mutant officers.  Disgusted, but no less willing to stop inflicting law, Aline kept her uniform, accepted a hero's badge,
