Character Bio

An ordinary housewife, forced by economic circumstances to work outside the home.

The only job available in her small Texas town was at an industrial slaughterhouse.

All day long, she was bombarded by corporate messages to kill more efficiently, and without moral concern for the animals.

All evening long, she was bombarded by media messages to seek approval.

And everywhere was violence. In the movies, the heroes had guns and swords. On the news, the politicians bombed the terrorists and the terrorists bombed everyone. In sports, Michael Vick received a hero's welcome. 
 
And always, there was the line, endlessly moving, and the animals, endlessly screaming. Her arm was numb from wielding the heavy blade, her clothes were stained. Her soul felt like rotting meat.

The day she killed her one millionth animal, she was given an award by the foreman in a small ceremony. Approval at last!

The housewife finally understood. She smiled at the foreman, raising her heavy knife.
