Ariane von Azurin was born to be a princess. It is a title others have done everything to keep her from assuming.

The only child of the last male heir to the tiny European country of Valstrasse, Ariane and her mother were separated from her father during an uprising which toppled the monarchy and Parliament. Her father, conveniently, was killed; his sister Eugenie, equally conveniently, was not.

Royal wealth and royal trickery got Eugenie, not Ariane, on the throne when the monarchy was recently restored. Statesman, a long-cultivated friend of Eugenie, was one of her strongest supporters -- as was Captain Superior, whose affair with Eugenie's granddaughter, heroine Azure Noir, is a juicy scandal.

When heroes are bought, justice can only be gained by the hands of villains. In the Rogue Isles, Ariane is building a power base so she can seize her crown.

As for the articles and DNA evidence showing Ariane to be a delusional genius, another faux Anastasia? Lies.
