Character Bio

First he was a monkey statue carved out of rock who came to life in the Mountain of Fruit and Flowers, and was crowned the handsome lord of apes, Mei Houwang.

Then, fearing his mortality, he trained under a great Buddhist sage and learned how to prolong his life (among other magical tricks) and took the name Sun Wukong.

He fought the lord of the dragons and stole a magic pillar from his palace to use as a staff. He stole the immortals' elixir from the Peach Banquet and became truly immortal. He declared himself Monkey, Equal to Buddha and All the Heavens and challeneged Buddha himself to a fight... and had a mountain dropped on him for his arrogance, imprisoning him for centuries.

Now, the great Buddha has determined that it is time to release the Monkey King on Earth once again, to use his unsurpassed battle prowess to aid the mortals who dwell here. 2012 may technically be the Year of the Dragon... but it's also definitely the Year of the Monkey King!
