Out beyond some planetary systems exist strange bodies, objects left behind by gravity, warmth and light. On these distant specks of matter, the normal laws governing existence are mostly ignored.

Mostly.

Even in such desolate places, life can take form. On one such, a consiousness arose, composed of many distinct "essences" gathered together by strange attractors. They found themselves drawn to a power source, a concentrated repository of energy unlike any it/they had even known.

Residing inside the object was the memory of a shape. Upright, brachiated, able to move and interact with other beings. Once the Cosmos Corps relaimed the once lost belt, they showed it another use for "arms," the appendages it/they had discarded as not desireable. The new ones work just as well, and have the added bonus of not chipping.
