Character Bio

A genetic defect left Derek Wayland with undeveloped optic nerves; he has been blind all his life.

Fortunately for Derek, that is not the only quirk in his makeup. His parents are teleporters, transport specialists for G.I.F.T. A teleporter must know where he's going, even if he can't see the destination. As a result, all surviving teleporters possess an extrasensory perception that allows them to perceive their target areas. Derek inherited an acute form of this sense, and uses it in place of sight.

Some months ago, Derek was present when a pair of Hellions tried to rob a sporting goods store. Rather than let them escape with a load of guns, he grabbed a bow from a display and bluffed the thugs into backing off.

Derek had never shot a bow in his life. He wasn't even sure that he could. Still, the bow felt good in his hands, and he began learning to use it as a way to hone his perceptions. Now he puts his skills to use on the streets of Paragon City. The blind man isn't bluffing any more.
