Once a normal teenage girl that loved sunbathing on the beach, Sylvia discovered her latent abilities to control fire on one particularly sweltering summer afternoon when she accidentally started a small fire with driftwood. The only problem was that she was reaching out to a small girl who had tripped over the driftwood and accidentally burned her. Sylvia opened her mouth in horror, and to her surprise the girl was instantly healed. She ran away from the scene, leaving the small fire behind, never to be seen on the beach again.

After that day, Sylvia hid out in her basement away from the sun, but found that her inate powers would not leave her. Years later she would be seen on a train heading to Paragon City, where she took the name Solar Salve, and began to truly learn how her powers could help others in need.
