Stripped of her mages powers and exiled from the court of her king and the kingdom for practicing the new magic called "science" (the gods smite that damned court jester for mucking about in the lab then causing a snow storm in the throne room)  Raslyn used the machine one final time to give herself the ability to wield blades instead of her long gone magic.
