In the eight years she spent on Earth Prime, Kelsey Nightbreeze dodged her past as effectively as she once dodged attacks. Her blades were put away, her alias dropped, her features altered, her profession and her heritage not just closeted, but locked behind a vault. And she blended in. Became almost normal -- or, at least, as normal as a centuries-old faeblood assassin turned private detective could be in human society.

But when her long-time human lover Dalghryn disappeared under mysterious and violent circumstances, Kelsey had no choice but to to re-open the doors she'd thought locked forever in order to find him. Calling upon the dark magic in her blood and the skills of the profession she had forsworn, she found his abductors and forced them into a bargain which made even her gambler's blood run cold for a chance to get to him.

But although she's won her wager and found Dalghryn, the Circle remains unbroken -- and they *hate* to lose...
