Zev McKari had a nice, slow life and a steady job in the mail room of a starship, The Stellar Albatross. He earned his nickname, Zip, because no one ever got their mail in a timely manner. That was until he was caught in a strange beam of cosmic "speed radiation" (the best label the science officer offered). This chance encounter accelerated Zip's body and mind, allowing him to move, think, and react at incredible speed. You'd expect this to be a boon to his mail duties, but alas, Zip is now incapable of routine or boredom.

When The Stellar Albatross made its final emergency landing here on Earth, Zip greedily explored as much as he could.
