Character Bio

Physics research funding dried up after the collapse of the USSR, but Academician Dmitri Konchalovskiy was fortunate: He was invited to work for a small private firm, working out of a former Cold War lab. Unknown to Academician Konchalovskiy, the firm was making ends meet by stripping and reselling their lab equipment, bit by bit. Eventually, a particle microsynchrotron with one too many pieces missing exploded while Dmitri was using it; as if surviving the radioactive explosion were not miracle enough, Dmitri found himself able to generate and control subatomic particles and the strong and weak nuclear forces. Adopting the sobriquet "Tokamak," after the revolutionary fusion reactor design pioneered by fellow Russian Andrei Sakharov, Dmitri fought crime in the struggling Russian cities for nearly ten years, and was instrumental in bringing down the supervillain styling himself "Ivan Reborn." Now he is in Paragon City as part of the International Hero Exchange Program.
