A combat robot built by the United States military, PTM01-012 stands for "Project Tin Man, Series One, Number Twelve." Built for fighting, not philosophy, the war machine had little sentience when initially activated, but its interaction with humans has led PTM01-012 to self-awareness; most human contacts refer to it as "012," rather than by its awkward serial number. Zero-Twelve's files do not include any information on the activities or existence of other PTM-series robots, but its analysis of typical military research conventions indicates the designation "012" indicates eleven predecessors, not all of which may have been successful.
