Character Bio

Aloysius Berg was one of the oldest members of the Circle of Thorns. He remembered when they were driven underground in 1933. He remembered the long years of exile as they hid themselves within Oranbega. And he remembered when the Rikti found their way into the ancient city, and the war that was fought against the invaders in the shadowy places deep beneath the Earth.

It was one such incursion that led to Aloysius becoming what he is today. After driving the Rikti from the sprawling ruins of Oranbega, Aloysius led several Circle mages into a forgotten crypt that the battle had exposed. Power called out to him from a sarcophagus deep in shadows. Yet it was not a power native to Oranbega. The spirit of an ancient and terrible magelord of Mu had been bound within that sarcophagus, and in a final act of revenge, seized the Circle mage's body and burned out the Spirit Thorn that lay within. Now controlling the body of Aloysius Berg, the magelord arose as the Red Pontiff to lay waste to all who opposed him.
