Selena hadn't planned on becoming a hero. In fact, her childhood dream of becoming a veterinarian was her sole obsession in her early teen years. An internship was proposed after her studies and she learned the harsh realities of the "pet business". Abused pets. Mass production of kittens, puppies, etc. Euthanasia of animals simply because the humans who were supposed to care for them decided they were tired of them.

It was during a cold winter visit to an illegal puppy farm that her powers manifested. Wounded animals were healed and started thriving at her touch. A dead puppy got back up, tail wagging. And she "made the cold go away". The illegal kennel was freed of snow and ice that had sifted through the makeshift building's open doorframe and smashed windows. The ice obeyed her will and stayed out.Her peers roll their eyes at how she mimimizes the villains' pain by numbing them with cold.

But when people say of her "She's such a nice girl", it sounds more like "Ice girl".d
