He was living on the streets and stealing to survive after his father a Katorian Tax Collector was killed. One winter night when Andru had all but giving up on trying to survive a warrior calling himself just The Baron appeared. The Baron taught Andru what he needed to in order to survive as well as how to strengthen his natural abilities, born into most of the Katorian Empire. Andru learned how to focus in order to heal faster and to shape the dark energy within to do real damage. Before The Baron disappeared he gave Andru the armor he uses now and told him to always be true to himself. Acting as negatiator for the King of the Wasteland he brought about a treaty between the Wastelands and King Fireagle's kingdom. It was at this time in his life that he held no rank within no kingdom or empire and was simply refered to as Master Icehawk. Being free of any duty to anyone else he started his life anew. There were only a handfull of survivors, most escaping into the Vortex to worlds beyond. Andru stayed behind to give those escaping a few moments more. Andru's years and years of mastering mystical artifacts and magical forces this moment was the catalyst that toke him to a whole new level of power.
