His kind were called Lithos, and they lived beneath the ground.J'san's problems began when he chose to explore what was Above. Being able to change their forms to stone when threatened, J'san thought he would be fairly safe. Unfortunately, he was entrapped by a mage who was intent upon pulling the stone from his body so that he could "statue-ize" a lovely young woman. The magic only partially worked. It copied, rather than removed, giving her stone powers but leaving J'san with them as well. The magic was also designed to take his stone and transmute it into crystal. This it did just fine, transmuting that which remained within him as well, making his sapphire. Together, they escaped the mage and, unfortunately, were arrested for his murder.  But that was not to be their fate either; Arachnos broke them out of the Zig, but neither he nor his partner serve them either.
