Character Bio

Returning victorious from his wars with the British, the Zulu warrior found acclaim from all sides. But soon the dull routine of training and farming began to eat at his soul.

He challenged other warriors over imagined slights, and won, but soon none dared face him. On feasting day, he beat every wrestler in his Impi (military unit). The tribe?s sorcerer offered him rewards, but he spurned such gain. ?What I really want is to fight -- to be the best.?

?The best of all time?? the mystic asked, a gleam in his eye. ?That may be possible to arrange.?

That night, the warrior?s sleep was fitful, disturbed by the old man?s chanting.

The terms of the spell are simple: To stay in this place and time, he must not be defeated. He can run away -- feigned retreats to draw the enemy into a trap are a standard impi tactic -- and he can decline battle until he feels he is ready. But if he falls to outright defeat, even once, it?s back to being a nineteenth-century cattle farmer.
