For every kid hero skulking around with their costume hidden under their bed and a notebook of creative excuses to explain long nights and bruises, there's one like me whose family won't shut up about them. I tell Gram it's dangerous (I don't meet a lot of people I want following me home at the end of the day) but even at her age she can still defend herself pretty well. She could have been a hero back in the 40s if her family hadn't been sent to an internment camp out west. She recognized something in me and, when she took me in while my parents split, made sure I got training. And more training. And more training. After all that, she's entitled to some bragging rights, I guess. I think I'm entitled to spring break in Cancun but she isn't buying it.
