Character Bio

Marita Kapelos is a gifted American athlete who competed for her ancestral homeland of Greece in the 1994 Summer Olympics. Mari didn't medal but planned to return to competition after college. That changed one night when she was brutally beaten and raped by a drug-addled thug. Struggling to work through her inner pain, she became a champion of women's issues. She turned to Zen Buddhism and Aikido to find peace. After graduation she went to Japan to study Aikido and Kendo, but her master advised her to seek greater challenges. She studied in Asia for 7 years, mastering principles and techniques of Kenjutsu, Kumdo, Escrima, Jeet Kune Do, and Dim Mak. She returned to Paragon City to take a job as the host of a TV social issues roundtable and was acclaimed as a champion of social change and mental health issues. But at night she becomes Nemesis Adrasteia, Daughter of the Night, to avenge the innocent victims of violent crime.
