Serge didn't really care about anything except swimming in his own money. He didn't care for his employees' safety, didn't care how his products ruined people's lives.

One day, an employee burned very badly tried to get his revenge by pushing him into the wide-open electrical wires where he had his accident. Instead of getting burned, Serge absorbed all the electricity and became kind of a Voltaic cell himself... Forced to feed on electricity, he commissioned his engineers to create him a suit to channel his energies just before he was thrown into the Zig...
