Twin sisters Alexa and Sara were always rivals, both very different and extremely competitive. Neither would know how an exploration trip through Norway would change their lives.

During a bad storm, the twins stumbled upon an ancient and strange cave, filled with fire and ice. Drawn by the magic of the cave, each girl went down a separate tunnel: Alexa, to the fire, while Sara was drawn to the ice. Each eventually came upon mysterious altars at the ends of the tunnels and began hearing melodious voices. Their souls were awakened. . . souls of Valkyries, hidden for generations, waiting for the perfect time. These Valkyries were rivals as well, each feeding off the positive or negative energy of the twins, changing them, giving them powers.

The twins battled-Sara's darkness had been so powerful she no longer worried about harming Alexa. Each barely survived to run away. Sara made her way to the Rogue Isles, Alexa to Paragon City, becoming ValkyrieRising. Sara chose a much darker path. . .
